Up and down,
Around and around again,
Not once on the ground,
Up and down again--
This does the Woodpecker.
Side to side,
It cocks its red-crowned head,
And it flicks aside
Bark, with its beak like lead.
And it gets its fill, does the Woodpecker.
And every well-placed tack
Is served
Like a good ol’ smack!
And he gets his reward deserved,
Does the Woodpecker.
Perhaps, we could learn
Something here:
Treasures we might earn
If to our work we adhere,
As does the Woodpecker.
